Dear Leading Edge Families

Every year, 8th graders participate in the culminating learning experience of 8th grade portfolios.  Over the course of two days, students present the portfolios that they have been building over the course of 3-years of middle school to a panel of teachers and community members.  This process is designed to allow students to demonstrate how they have grown in their understanding of the Leading Edge pillars through their time in middle school.

This year, portfolio panels will be held on the afternoons of Thursday, May 11th and Friday, May 12th.  These will be minimum days.  Classes will end at 11:15.  Students will be allowed to remain on campus for lunch, but must be off campus by 11:45.  Only 8th graders who are presenting their portfolios should remain on campus for the afternoon.  Each 8th grader will be assigned a time slot on either Thursday or Friday, between 11:50 and 2:15.

To make this process more significant and authentic for our 8th grade students, we recruit community members to sit on panels as judges.  This is an excellent opportunity for parents of younger students to develop an understanding of the portfolio process.  It is also a fantastic chance to invite extended family, friends, and colleagues to help out our Leading Edge community.  Portfolio judges can sign up for as many panels as they are able to attend, but we ask for a minimum of two.  Please consider signing up as judge at the sign-up genius link below or sharing this opportunity with other community members.  Parents of 8th grade students are asked not to sign up.
