April Updates

April Updates were emailed out.  Here they are for your reference

Happy Spring Leading Edge Families

We are firmly in the last quarter of the school year but there are lots of opportunities left to take an active role in the Leading Edge community.  Here are your updates for the month of April.

Mystery Math Night

Join us for Mystery Math Night on April 6th from 7-8p.m. in the MPR.  Our math team has planned a great puzzle solving adventure with math games, secret codes and problem solving.  The evening will be capped off with a session on how to promote growth mindset for your student.  Snacks and parent hours available.  Students and their siblings are welcome.

Spring Break

School will be closed for spring break from April 10th through April 17th.  We will see everyone back on Tuesday, April 18th.

Progress Reports

Trimester three progress reports for students earning 1s and 2s will be sent on April 21st.  Grades are always available on Schoology.

New NAEF Director

The Natomas Arts and Education Foundation (or NAEF) has a new executive director.  NAEF supports Natomas Charter School students and programs in many ways.  New director Sierra Hersek has created this short video to introduce herself and NAEF to NCS families.

Street Fair

Save the date for Leading Edge Street Fair - Thursday, April 27th from 5:30-7:00.  This is the Leading Edge version of Open House.  Interactive learning displays in each classroom.  A pet adoption event as part of the Expressions class “Kindness for Paws” unit.  Food Trucks.  Ice Cream. Raffle Baskets.  This is our most exciting culminating family learning event of the year.  Don’t miss it.

Planning Ahead for May and June

  • SBAC testing week is May 1-5.  Students will be testing in the mornings and have regular classes in the afternoons.  Please try not to have your student miss school this week.

  • There are 4 minimum days in April and May; April 28th, May 11th, May 12th, and May 26th.  Students will be dismissed at 11:15 and can stay for lunch until 11:45.  8th graders presenting their portfolios on the 11th or 12th will be allowed to stay on campus but all others need to be off campus by 11:45.

  • Finals Week is June 5-9th.  On Monday June 5th, Tuesday June 6th, and Wednesday June 7th students will have final exams.  They will be dismissed by 1pm.  On Thursday June 8th, students will be attending end of the year field trips.  On Friday June 9th, 6th and 7th graders will not have classes.  8th grade promotion will take place on June 9th.  More information on this to come.
